Crisis in Syria
Why Syria?
The Syrian Civil War
The Syrian conflict, Its been more than a decade, and it still remains one of the most significant refugee crises in recent history. Since its onset on March 15, 2011, the Syrian populace has endured immense suffering, resulting in the loss of countless lives due to conflict-related circumstances. Over 80% of Syrians endure extreme poverty, surviving on less than £1.50 per day. The rapid deterioration of the Syrian nation is evident, with widespread displacement and devastation.
The scale of devastation can be quantified by the numbers alone. With over 6.8 million Syrian refugees and asylum-seekers, an additional 6.7 million individuals are internally displaced within the country. This totals to approximately 13.5 million people, reflecting the grim reality of over half of the nation’s population being forcibly displaced. Of this staggering figure, an estimated 11.2 million Syrian nationals require urgent humanitarian assistance. It is disheartening to note that half of the population hardest hit by the refugee crisis comprises children.
